But when it comes to this music, we stand a better chance of being successful by dealing with depth and really tackling weighty matters or things that mean something to people in the long run. It might not get “Ballad of the Black Gold” off the last Reflection Eternal album on MTV or radio spins. Thirteen-year-old girls calling up to the radio station might not like that song, but at the end of the day, 50 years from now, one of them might come up to me and tell me how a record like that opened their eyes. And that is what I feel like is more important.
